ISR Swim Lessons: Building Lifelong Water Safety Skills

Rebekah has been a certified Infant Swim Rescue (ISR) Instructor since 2018. One advantage of being an ISR-certified instructor is that all ISR students are registered and cleared through the national ISR office before starting their first in-water lesson. The registration fee goes to the national ISR office in Florida which supports a team of Doctors and Nurses who review each registration to ensure your child is medically able to participate and to ensure these are the safest swimming lessons for your child.

ISR has been the global leader in survival swimming for infants and young children since its pioneering in 1966. Highly trained ISR Instructors provide the safest and most effective survival swimming lessons, backed by nearly 60 years of research and experience. Join us in our mission, 'Not One More Child Drowns,' as we strive to prevent the leading cause of accidental death for children under 4 in the U.S.

With a mission to prevent child drownings, ISR has delivered over 19,000,000 self-rescue lessons. Traditional defenses often fall short, making ISR's focus on empowering children a vital component in drowning prevention. ISR believes in multiple layers of defense, including active adult supervision and pool safety measures.

Rollback

All students, even those as young as 6 months old, learn the fundamental ISR skill of rolling onto their backs with their face out of the water.

Float

ISR teaches children to float in the rollback position to rest and breathe. Infants and toddlers who are not yet walking well will learn to maintain this position until help can reach them.

Swim Float Swim

As toddlers and young children gain more physical skills on land, they are ready to learn more skills in the water as well. ISR teaches children to swim a short distance, rotate onto their back to a floating position, and then turn over to continue the sequence of swimming and floating.

Exit

Children are taught to swim float swim in a repeating sequence until they can reach safety at the steps, side of the pool, or shoreline.

Fully Clothed

Winter clothes are about as far away from a bathing suit as you can get, which is exactly why each ISR student learns to complete the ISR sequence fully clothed... oftentimes in heavier winter clothes. Accidents are unplanned, and the majority of children who drown do so dressed for the day; without mommy and daddy planning on them being in the water.
